Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor Enthusiast Paradise

The Spokane region offers amazing opportunities for outdoor fun (check out this short video of local recreation opportunites). The Spokane River is within minutes from anywhere in the city and residents enjoy 260 days of sun each year in which to hike, ski, swim and more.

The Centennial Trail is one of the region’s most notable outdoor attractions. The trail spans 40 miles in total and is perfect for biking, roller skating, running, walking, wildlife viewing and more. The Valley portion of the trail is the most suitable portion for a leisurely ride, with a mostly flat course extending from the state line, past the Spokane Valley Mall, through a treed canopy alongside the river, and ending approximately at the Maringo Trailhead.

Proximity to the Northwest Rockies make Spokane Valley an ideal location for skiing. Five ski resorts are within 75 miles and receive over 300 inches of snow a year. The vast selection of ski locations mean enthusiasts enjoy fewer crowds and lower prices. Residents new to these available activities can find a wide array of courses offered by the resorts that are targeted to beginner skiers and snowboarders, as well as children from toddlers to teens. Accomplished skiers can find specialty workshops in powder, moguls, racing and other specialties. There’s no better location to dive into the sport of skiing than Spokane Valley.

The Spokane region is also home to 33 of the nation’s finest public and private golf courses, ranked in the top 100 by Golf Digest. In addition, countless hiking trails meander through majestic mountains. Thanks to ancient lava flows and glacial activity, the Spokane region is filled with fascinating rock formations that create a unique geology for avid rock climbers.

The region also boasts 76 regional lakes, making it paradise for the boating or fishing enthusiast. Swimmers, water skiers and wake boarders will also find no shortage of beaches to explore and enjoy.

No matter the terrain, Spokane Valley has the outdoor opportunities for those that want to get out and enjoy nature.
